ARTIST STATEMENT: How can I use contrast and value to emphasize the feeling of being manipulated through symbolic colors, symbols, and textures? How can I show the hold manipulation has through negging, guilt, gaslighting and peer pressure from proportion and scale? How can I use distortion to show the feeling of falling apart? How can I show isolation and stress from a foreshortened viewpoint? The central idea of my concentration is manipulation and effects it can leave on a person. I started this Investigation with showing specific effects of manipulation, and have grown to get underneath the specific effects and how manipulation as a whole effects a person completely. I experimented in diverse ways to show control, influence, mind games, exploiting of insecurities, and the feeling of manipulation through stress and isolation representing the realistic emotion of tiredness. I expressed the feeling of over simulation from manipulation with all these effects combined and more specifically as fear, anxiety, and discomfort. Using distortion I showed a visual representation of one becoming emotionally disturbed and becoming emotionally unfit to think calmly or deal with the difficult situation that they're in. I experimented with all different medias, also drew sketches and conducted research in a sketchbook for each piece.
